Sampling small nodules in the lung can be very challenging and any advance in this area is welcomed. This project studied the feasibility of using a new robotic device in sampling small peripheral nodules via bronchoscopy.
This first-in-human study was performed at RBWH Bronchoscopy Department. This robotic-assisted navigation system has safely navigated deep into the lung under continuous visualization to sample very small nodules. The ability of the catheter and needle to reach distal airways and maintain static position allows unique sampling capability.
A second phase of studies is planned using a Mark 2 Robot.
