HealthPathways – Queensland's online portal designed by general practitioners, for general practitioners – this month received its millionth pageview!
Since 2016, Queensland Health's Clinical Excellence Queensland has been working in partnership with Primary Health Networks (PHNs), general practitioners (GPs), hospital specialists and other experts to develop localised HealthPathways. HealthPathways is used by GPs as a decision support tool and includes information for the assessment and management of patients with common clinical conditions, including diabetes, liver disease and even gambling.
Liz Travers, Principal Project Officer, Queensland Health, said since the portal's launch, more than 3,000 pathways have been created for common conditions. "We continue to work closely with GPs, hospital specialists and other experts to develop localised HealthPathways and feedback from our interstate colleagues confirmed that Queensland is leading the nation in achieving this," Ms Travers said. HealthPathways is currently used in Queensland including Brisbane north and south, Central Queensland, Far North Queensland, Mackay, Sunshine Coast, Townsville and Wide Bay.
Central Queensland, Wide Bay, and Sunshine Coast PHN HealthPathways and Smart Referrals Coordinator Clinton Bazley said the team has been working hard with local GPs and specialists to ensure all pathways meet the needs of patients, treating clinicians and referring specialists. "In less than two years, HealthPathways has been widely adopted in local general practice as the go-to resource for clinical management and referral information," Mr Bazley said. "Many GPs appreciate the collaborative nature of HealthPathways and regularly provide feedback to improve its function. As a result, we're ensuring patients receive the right care, at the right place, at the right time."
Andy Froggatt of HealthPathways' founding company, Streamliners, said reaching one million pageviews was a major milestone for Queensland. "HealthPathways cannot achieve this on its own and this success has been achieved by working in partnership and putting clinicians at the centre of change," Mr Froggatt said.
