As with most things this year, the PROV-ED Pitchfest 2020 looked a little bit different!
Following a great response and some excellent submissions, shortlisted applicants were asked to prepare a three-minute ‘pitch’ video, as opposed to the normal process of presenting the pitch in person to a panel of judges.
The expert review panel began viewing and judging the submissions in mid-August with the panel including representatives from the Queensland Emergency Department Strategic Advisory Panel (QEDSAP), Clinical Excellence Queensland, PROV-ED Project Team, and two consumer representatives. The panel viewed all videos and were able to virtually meet and ask the applicants questions via videoconference.
Sarah Ashover, Principal Project Officer with PROV-ED said the virtual alternative worked well. “Everyone was very adaptable to the virtual format and we thank them for that and for showing a bit of creative flair!”
And recently the successful applicants were announced:
*Drum roll*
Ventilation Care Bundle
A bedside educational resource to assist with clinical decision making and to track patient progress.
Rapid Sequence Induction Prep Sheet
A visual prompt for nursing staff allocated to the drugs role to ensure correct medications are prepared during resuscitation.
Cartoons to reduce urine sample contamination in the emergency department
Includes male and female illustrations and instructions to help stop contamination from external sources as a result of poor collection techniques.
SWIFT (Safe, Well organised, Inter-Facility Transfer) process
A bedside safety checklist conducted at the time of a patient transfer by the senior doctor and senior nurse to ensure safety criteria are addressed prior to transfer.
The PROV-ED Project Team is excited to begin work to start planning for statewide rollout of their initiatives.
“Once again, our sincere thanks to everyone who applied to Pitchfest 2020 and engaged with the PROV-ED Project. Congratulations to the final four and remember - there's always Pitchfest 2021!” Sarah said.
