Our Healthcare Improvement Unit will add another trophy to the shelf, taking out the Innovative leadership and workforce award at the 2017 Queensland Health and Department of Health Awards for Excellence. The team shared the title with the Queensland Ambulance Service.
The Clinical Excellence Division was well represented at this year’s awards, with five teams nominated across four categories. HIU won their award for the General Practitioner access to The Viewer initiative, a key objective of the Specialist Outpatient Strategy, which has provided Queensland general practitioners with read-only, secure online access to Queensland Health’s clinical information system The Viewer. This sharing of information allows for great collaboration between healthcare providers and leads to improved continuity of care for patients.
Our Mental Health Alcohol and Other Drugs Branch received a Highly Commended award for the Department of Health Awards for Excellence – enabling safe quality services and equitable health outcomes category for their work in implementing the Mental Health Act 2016. This new Act was the result of a major review led by the branch, which also included significant community and government consultation.
The Statewide Anaesthesia and Perioperative Care Clinical Network, known as SWAPnet, was also a finalist in this category for the pre-anaesthetic evaluation framework the group developed in collaboration with a number of clinicians. The framework, which consists of investigation, triage and implementation guidelines, has improved anaesthetic and perioperative service delivery in Queensland.
The Queensland Child and Youth Clinical Network (delivered in partnership with Children’s Health Queensland Hospital and Health Service) also received a Highly Commended for the Queensland Health Awards for Excellence – Connecting Healthcare award. Their ‘Growing Good Habits’ initiative is the first integrated strategic agenda tackling the prevention and management of paediatric overweight and obesity issues.
CED was also a finalist in the Department of Health Awards for Excellence – engaging with partners to deliver high performance for delivering the inaugural Clinical Excellence Showcase held earlier this year. The Showcase connected health service staff to help scale and spread projects and initiatives that are delivering better outcomes for Queensland patients and staff.
