Empowering nurses to take the lead in tackling 21st century health challenges is at the heart of the Nursing Now campaign. Launched earlier today by the International Council of Nurses and the World Health Organization, the three year campaign aims to raise the status of nurses and recognise them as the heart of care.
The campaign focuses on improving education and professional development, increase innovative practices, influencing policy decisions, getting more nurses into leadership positions and exploring where nursing can have the most impact.
Queensland’s Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officer Shelley Nowlan and her team praised the campaign as a wonderful way to keep the spotlight on nursing and connecting high-level decision makers to bring together and grow innovative ideas.
"The five core principles of the Nursing Now campaign aligns with the work undertaken by the Office of the Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officer (OCNMO) and Clinical Excellence more broadly," Ms Nowlan said.
"It is reassuring to know that we’re on the right track in Queensland. From educational and professional development pathways, to leadership programs and practice innovation, OCNMO are working towards innovating practice and promoting the importance of nursing and midwifery every day."
