The Simplified Sick Day Management tool, (PDF, 352kB) is designed to support clinicians in empowering consumers with low health literacy to effectively manage sick days.
This tool complements existing comprehensive resources and is intended for use in conjunction with education provided by Diabetes Educators. Key features include:
Trial outcomes have shown significant benefits, including improved consumer confidence in managing ketones at home, a reduction in hospital presentations, and positive feedback from both consumers and clinicians. The tool has been reviewed by health literacy experts and aligns with universal design principles, ensuring accessibility for a diverse audience.
Clinicians are encouraged to incorporate this tool into their practice when delivering sick day education, ensuring consumers are equipped with the knowledge and support they need for effective diabetes self-management.
